Toncoin is now Gram: what changed, what didn't
If you held Toncoin, you now hold Gram. On 15 June 2026 at 12:00 UTC the native coin of The Open
Network was renamed from Toncoin (ticker TON) to Gram (ticker GRAM). Here is what that
means in practice, including for Telegram usernames, +888 numbers and .ton domains.
The short answer
- Gram and Toncoin are the same coin. One Gram is what one Toncoin was, and your balance shows the same number.
- The blockchain is still TON. The official media page puts it in two lines: "Gram is the name of the token — and GRAM is its ticker. Formerly known as Toncoin or TON." and "The Open Network (TON) is the name of the blockchain."
- You do not need to do anything. The rename announcement says: "There is no swap, bridge, claim, or migration. No action is required from users."
The change followed a community vote on TON Vote, open from 1 to 8 June 2026, which passed with 81.22% in favour. Gram is not a new name: it is what the coin was called in the original TON white paper.
What changed
| Before | Since 15 June 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Coin name | Toncoin | Gram |
| Ticker | TON | GRAM |
| Main exchange pairs | TON/USDT | GRAM/USDT |
| Smallest unit in the docs | nanoton | nanogram (1 Gram = 10⁹ nanograms) |
Exchange pairs. Most exchanges moved trading to new GRAM markets: Gate.io opened GRAM_USDT on
16 June, OKX GRAM-USDT on 17 June and Binance GRAMUSDT on 2 July (dates from the exchanges' own
market data). Not every venue has renamed: at the time of writing Kraken and Coinbase still trade the
coin as TONUSD and TON-USD. Under either ticker it is the same asset at the same price.
Wallets and documentation. Ecosystem projects were asked to switch at the same moment and to be consistent everywhere by 22 June; the TON docs now describe the wallet built into Telegram as "the native Gram wallet". The documentation style guide now lists Toncoin as an outdated term, and amounts are counted in nanograms: "1 Gram = 10⁹ nanograms", as the TON Connect guide puts it.
What didn't change
- The blockchain. It is still The Open Network. TON DNS, TON Sites, TON Connect and
.tondomains keep their names. - Balances. No conversion took place, so a wallet that held 12.5 💎 before the rename holds 12.5 💎 after it.
- Addresses.
EQ…,UQ…and raw0:…addresses are exactly what they were; see Reading a TON address. - Contracts, NFTs, staking, DeFi. The announcement lists all of them as unchanged; jettons are contracts too.
- The data on the chain. Amounts have always been stored as whole numbers of the smallest unit
(nine decimal places), and the chain's data schema has called that field
gramsfrom the start (currencies$_ grams:Grams …). As the vote announcement put it, the name "never left the codebase". - The price. The GRAM and TON markets quote the same thing. At the time of writing apiton reads 1.2665 on the Binance and OKX GRAM markets and 1.2645–1.2647 on the Kraken and Coinbase TON markets.
Usernames, +888 numbers, .ton domains and gifts
Fragment auctions, .ton domain auctions and almost all on-chain sale contracts are priced in the
network's coin (a few sales ask for a jetton such as USD₮), so these assets carry on as before. A
username listed at 1,250 before 15 June is listed at 1,250 Gram after it, and the NFT that proves
ownership has not moved or been re-minted.
On apiton.org every amount of the native coin is written with a gem, for example "1,250 💎". The gem stands for the network's coin, Gram, whatever ticker an exchange shows; the official Gram icon is a white star on a blue diamond. Browse the usernames, +888 numbers, .ton domains and gifts hubs, or see where a price comes from.
The other GRAM: a jetton
Token symbols on TON are not unique. A jetton named "Gram" with the symbol GRAM describes itself
as "the first-ever PoW jetton on TON Blockchain" (master
EQC47093oX5Xhb0xuk2lCr2RhS8rj-vul61u4W2UH5ORmG_O). It has nothing to do with the native coin: at the
time of writing apiton prices it at about $0.0006, against about $1.27 for Gram.
How to tell them apart:
- The native coin has no contract. It is the balance of the account itself. Anything called GRAM that has a master address is a jetton.
- On apiton.org the native coin is always 💎 and a jetton keeps its symbol, so "1,250 GRAM" means the jetton.
- In the apiton API the native balance is the
ton_balancefield, and a price with an emptycurrencyis in the native coin. AGRAMrow inv2.Address/Jettonsis the jetton.
And one warning from the official announcement: "Any site, bot, or link asking you to 'claim GRAM' or 'migrate TON' is a scam."
How apiton gets the Gram price
Every dollar figure on apiton (balances, jetton prices, portfolio totals in the bot) is derived from one Gram/USD rate, refreshed every 15 seconds:
- quotes from eight exchanges: OKX, Bybit, Binance, Gate.io and KuCoin against USDT under GRAM, and Bitfinex, Kraken and Coinbase against the US dollar. Each quote is the midpoint of the best bid and ask, and a halted market gives no quote at all;
- when three or more quotes agree within 3%, their median is the rate. Otherwise the quotes are checked against the deepest on-chain USD₮/Gram pool, whose price is used when fewer than two exchanges agree with it.
We learned the "halted market" rule the hard way. Binance's old TONUSDT market stopped trading on
30 June 2026, but its public ticker still reports the last price, 1.60 USDT. apiton's feed accepted
that frozen number until 18 October 2026, and by then it had pushed apiton's dollar figures about 9%
too high. The fix: only live bid and ask prices count, and the GRAM markets are read directly. If
you maintain a price feed, check that the market is still trading, not just that it answers. For
token prices in dollars see Jetton prices in USD.
Checking the rate yourself
v2.Rate/Crypto returns the price of one coin in other assets; USDT is the rate described above:
curl -X POST https://app.apiton.org/v2.Rate/Crypto \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{"symbol":["USDT","BTC"]}'
At the time of writing this returned {"result":{"BTC":0.000015684,"USDT":1.2665}}.
v2.Rate/Fiat with {"symbol":["USD","EUR"]} gives fiat prices, and v2.Rate/Exchanges the quote
of each exchange. Field names such as ton_balance were kept for compatibility; they mean Gram.
In Telegram, send /rate to @apitonBot for "1 💎 = … USD", or /rate EUR
for another currency.
Summary
- Toncoin became Gram (TON → GRAM) on 15 June 2026: the same coin, nothing for holders to do.
- The blockchain, addresses, balances, contracts and NFTs did not change; usernames, numbers, domains and gifts keep their prices, which apiton writes in 💎.
- A
GRAMjetton symbol is a different token, and "claim GRAM" offers are scams.
